NEW PLYMOUTH v. UNITED SERVICK These teams had another intercstin; game when they met in the secoiui round. In the first round United Ser vie- gained a two-point victory by -1 runs, and this time a two-pomt win was again theirs, the issue being keenly contested. Winning the toss, New Plymouth batted first, and compiled 86. United Service, batting a man short, replied with 10G. Heskett'S 21 were got by careful and stylish play. He was dismissed by a smart catch by Bain in the slips. Mason's 23 represented vigorous and confident batting. Weston (11) was the only other to get double figures. Extras contributed 15. Oliver was sliapng well, but had the misfortune to play on a loose ball from Bain. The latter's six wickets cost 40 runs. Dinniss produced the best trundling for his side, although his average (three for 22) does not read as well as Bain's. Colvile and Purdue each bowled a wide, Purdue capturing the last wicket for the one run that his wide contributed. The fielding of United Service was good on the whole. With Stewart and Osborne each dismissed for a "duck," United Service opened badly. Stewart was very smartly taken at the wickets, and Osborne was "beaten all the way" by Heskett. Bain and Ingram and McGie then took the total to over 50. Bain's first hit was a 0 off Nicoll, but when he had made 27 the bowler took revenge with a beautiful ball. Ingram also hit Nicoll out of the ground, but a good catch by Oliver dis--1 missed this batsman at 13. 1A smart ' catcli by Mason disposed of McGie. Col- ' vile was missed by Mason in the slips off 1 his first ball, but his career was ended early by Chappell accepting a difficult overhead catch not far from the boundary. The other United Service batsmen all batted vigorously, Dinniss just getting into double figures. Stainton allowed but four byes to be scored. The scores are appended:—

LAW v. INGLEWOOD. Law made its most creditable showing of this season in the unfinished match against Inglewood on Saturday, Lash's finely-played 94 and Billings' 36 being mainly responsible for the total of 165. Both batsmen batted forcibly and confidently. Eggleton, who got nine maidens out of 22 overs, was the only bowler to seriously trouble them. For Inglewood, Marsh (39), McDonald (19), and Sutherland (21, not out) batted well, and with 99 on the board for the loss of four wickets, the result is still open. None of Law's bowlers showed to advantage, but the fine performance with the bat will infuse fresh enthusiasm into their supporters. The following are the detailed scores: —

ALBION v. TIKORANGI. The country team put up a poor showing against Albion in the Recreation Grounds on Saturday, Clarke's excellent bowling being the, cause of their downfell. Albion batted steadily as usual, Clarke, Girling, and O'Donnell being the luain contributors to the score. Foreman was the best Tikorangi bowler. In a second, strike the visitors managed to score 07.
