OPUNAKE SEASIDE SOCIETY.
WEDNESDAY'S ETC PICNIC. The various committees have now made complete arrangements for the big gala day, which is to bo held at Opunake on Wednesday, and in which residents of Opunake and Kaponga, and indeed of the whole countryside for fifteen, miles round are to participate. Residents of the districts mentioned fully recognise the good work that the committee is doing in popularising the Opunake beach, and to show their appreciation by attending in large numbers. In addition to the dolightJ of,surf bathing and sand manipulation for old and young, there will be procurable the best of refreshments, whilst a fine programme of sports has been arranged and approved. The tug-of-war teams will be seven men aside instead of ten as in the past, the ertry fee being one shillings per mar., first prize 21s, second prize 7s, no second prize unless four or more teams compete. The prizes for stepping a chain were fixed at 10s first, and 5s second. The following committees were appointed: Sports committ"?, adults events, Messrs Clarke. Million, Marshall, Stubbs and Ross. Juvenile events, Messrs. Malcolm, Greenhill, Mildcnlmll and Rev. Stent. Ground committee, Messrs Burton, Marshall, Stubbs and Blyth. In the evening a special picture programme will be screened and a dance will follow the pictures. The admission to the dance wil be: gentlemen 2s, ladies Is, and supper will b< provided.
