A PECIiJAR ACCIDENT. By Telegraph.—Per Presß Association.* Levin, January 23. ■ On Thursday evening Mr. J. Smellta, manager of tin- Levin Butter Factory met with a serious accident. A rope was attached to it to bring it down in the right direction* While pulling the rope it broke and' Smellie fell, with his leg doubed traderi neath, breaking his left below the knee. Steve Bebich, a young man, was thrown from his horse at Kumeu, and received a broken thigh and internal' injuries, which resulted in his death. A BUGGY ACCIDENT.

Auckland, January 23. After Dalgety's sale at 'Whakapiran yesterday, a buggy containing Mir. Christie (Dalgety's representative), Mr. W. H. Bennett, and three others, left to catch the train for Auckland. Short. ly after starting the buggy capsized and rolled over several times, throwing the occupants out. Christie and Be* nett each had one leg broken and both are now in the Auckland Hospital, Ttis others received slight injuries. Timaru, Last' Night James Thomas Dockrill, a labourer. aged 45 years, committed suicide between last mVht and this morning. He lived by himself in Wratlington suburb, and had been in bad health. The doctor on Friday said the man had been suffer* ing from drink, and should go to the hoipital. Deceased said he would ratb.fr drown himself. A woman saw the body in the creek near hit house He left • note saying, "Look in the creek at th* bottom of the June." An inquest was opened, but was adjourned.- A brother* in-law said he did not think Dockrill had been in his right senses for the last three years. A ROAD FATALITY. Dannevirke, Last Night At the inquest on Michael MacAulifft, who met his death at Norsewood byfalling off a timber waggon and breaking his neck, a verdict of accidental death was returned. A BUGGY ACCIDENT Paliiatua, Last Night. C. Watson, a shephtrd on Thompson'* Estate, Akitio was returning with his wife from Pongaroa yesterday in a buggy, when the occupants were thrown' over an embankment. Watson sustained fracture of the leg in two places, and was sent to the Paliiatua' hospital. ■ His" wife was unhurt. BOY SAVED FROM DROWNING. Auckland, Last Night. A drowning fatality was narrowly averted at Awanui by the presence of mind of Mr Tan Henare, member of Parliament for the Northern Maori electorate. A small Maori boy fell off tht Awanui wharf, and was being carried away by the tide when Mr Henare, attracted by cries for assistance, threw oft his coat and swam to the boy's assistance. He succeeded in bringing tha boy to safety in a v<*y exhausted condition He was ably helped by Mr Chamberlain, manager of the Northern bteamship Company, who also plunged in, fully clothed. 6
