T-Te had, in fact, been "a whit# man." Mr. Sykes said he appreciated the compliment paid him in offering him l the position, and that' lie had been toilsome years associated with work of thltf kind, having worked with the late Mr. Tisch in the Seaside Improvement Committee, as well as on the Reserves Committee of the Borough Council. He recognised what a greaji asset th e foreshore was to the town, and prophesied a great future for New Plymouth as a seaside watering-place when the beaches were more fully developed by the energetic societies which had the matter in hand, with the assistance that they had the right to expect from the Borough" Council Hi- praised the work that had been done here by the West End Society,, and said that this work was recognised both by the residents and by the hundreds of visitors who had enjoyed it£ shady walks, the swings, and the buhgalow. Concluding, he announced that His Worship the Mayor, Mr. J. E. Wll' son, had promised him a cheque for two guineas as a donation to the society. IA very satisfactory balance-sheet of the Boxing Day picnic was submitted by the treasurer, and adopted. It was decided to make application to the Borough Council for the right to control Regina Place, on the beach, near the Baths, eastward of Weymouth street.

A letter will lie sent to the Borough Council, asking that the Police Department be asked to more diligently patrol the foreshore.. ■> , i l^j
