LONDON WOOL SALES. By Cable—Presa Association—Copyright. London, January 19. At the wool sales to-day 9717 bales weii! catalogued, an excellent selection of merino i and crossbreds. There was a splendid attendance, and a few Continental buyers. The tone was more cheerful than in December. Merinos and most combing sorts were generally 5 per cent, dearer, and all scoureds at par. The improved demand was due to the United States and Continental support, on the Board of Trade's announcement that licenses would be given to export to the United States and the Allies' countries on sworn declarations that the wool would not be transhipped to an enemy country. All crossbreds were fully 5 per cent dearer. Copper.—Spot, £6O 15s to £Ol Tin. —Cash, £154 to £154 ss. Pig-iron.—s7s Id. Spelter.—£3o 10s to £3O 12s 6d. Jute.— January-February shipment, £2O 10s.
