While the year began disastrously, the strike was nothing to the unprecedented war : now raging over the whole world, and in which our own Empire is engaged. Commerce and manufacture are most seriously affected thereby, and the bacon trade has not escaped. The usual Christmas ham trade has been somewhat demoralised. After paying interest on share capital, the balance on hand makes it possible for your directors to make a further payment of 3d per lb on all baeimers supplied from the 1-itli September to the 30th Xovember. and a further payment of }(1 per 11) for pigs supplied during tin- balance of the season, excepting "March and April, which months we claim to have advanced the highest price paid in the district.
