TWO WELLING TOX IJ ":S DAMAGED. By Telegraph.—Per Press ntion. Wellington, Last, Night. Two fires occurred in the city at ani early hour this morning. The first was at 2.28 am., when'the brigade received a call to a two-storeyed building in' Upper Willis 'Street, occupied'by James Hopwell, the owner, who had the lower floor, and F. P. Smith, who carried ort a. photographer's business on the upper floor. The fire originated upstairs and. did considerable damage before it could • be extinguished, the studio being practically burnt out. Smith had an insurance of £l9O in the Phoenix office. At half-past five a milkman named Parker discovered a fire iii" a twostoreyed dwelling in Sydney Street, and by his prompt action in rousing the inmates probably prevented, fatal results. The house was occupied by' Mrs Mary Carey, and the outbreak oceurn-d in tf bedroom in which two young men,-. Patrick Soutar and Con. Armstrong, were! ■ sleeping. The fire had a strong hold when discovered, and it was not before the building was seriously damaged that flic brigade could check "it. The contents of four bedrooms, valued at about! £IOO, were destroyed, and the building suffered damage to the extent of approximately £IOO. The whole of rhe furniture in the lower part was saved,' hut was affected very much by water.
