POOR PROSPECTS 01'' A KETTLEME.Yi', By Cable Press Association—Copyright I J •Sydney, January lii. • Tlie present indications of the pros- | fleets of tlie recent conference of the j Northern Colliery Proprietors; and the j Miners' Federation settling tlie alternoon shift trouble :;re not bright. The Kurrikurri miners turned down the employers' oll'er of increased pay for the I afternoon shift. The miners' executive is approaching the proprietors with a view to a further conference. It appears that another deadlock is approaching. The men are determined to abolish the afternoon shift, and the proprietors areunanimous regarding its continuance. Western miners are suffering from lack of work and many men are being dismissed. / The .South Coast .Minors' Delegate Board is considering the position with regard to the South Coast miners. It is stated that no definite terms of settlement have been offered. Tlie date of the conference with regard to surface hands has been fixed for January 22. The conference will not meet if any miners are idle owing So industrial troubles. It has been decided that in future all grievances must be placed in the hands of the executive before drastic action is taken. All five lodges concerned in tlie afternoon shift dispute definitely refused the proprietors' proposals.
