EARTHQUAKES.
AN ITALIAN UPHEAVAL. TOWN DESTROYED. i By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, January 13. An earthquake lasting twenty seconds occurred in Italy. It is reported that the town of Anezzano was destroyed and J thousands perished. Much damage occurred elsewhere. Rome, January 13. ! Tiie belry of the Clmcli of St Andrea dellc frate was badly shaken by the earthquake, and is in danger of falling. The statue of St. Paul fell from fSan Giovanni in Laterano. The inhabitants of Monte Ro Ondo fled in panic. Two storeys of the tower of tin? Town Hall fell,' damaging the lower portion. Two people were killed and many injured. Several houses collapsed at Breoli, with a number of fatalities. SHOCK AT TOKOMARU. Gisborne, January 14. Tokomaru Bay reports three slight shocks of earthquake this morning. No damage was done.
