HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. THE ALLIES PROGRESSING. The Premier has received the following from the High Commissioner: — London, January 14, 4.30 a.m. Paris reports later that north-east of Soissons, the Allies' counter-attack progressed slightly between Cuffies and Crouy, hut they were unable to debouch from Crouy. Violently attacked on the east in tins locality, the Allies fell back slightly near the village of Moncel, which they occupy. Petrograd reports artillery fire and outpost skirmishes along the whole front. A Russian detachment advancing in Eastern Prussia, east of Roson, occupied several villages. After fighting in one, the Germans were driven out by a bayonet attack. South-east of Mlawa the Russians progressed in the direction ■of Radznow, Several German advances wero easily repulsed.
Wellington, January 14. The High Commissioner reports under date, January 13, 6.5 p.m.— Paris reports that persistent bad weather has interfered with operations along the entire front. The struggle is still proceeding on spur 132, north-west oi Soissons. Tin} Allies are mantaining the top and north-west slope, but are giving ground on the east. . Between Soissona and Berry-an-bnc the artillery caused explosions at various points in German batteries. The salient of the redoubt north of Beausejour in the Sonata region remains in French hands.
