NEW HOSPITAL.

ASSUMING UEI-JNITI3 SHAPE. To the lay mind the new uospital has now assumed definite shape, while its several wards, kitchen, and operation wings, with their respective adjuncts, are all rapidly passing on towards completion. Externally, the whole of the building, except Ward No. 4, is covered in, and in a few days the last Marseilles tile will be laid, thus completing all the heavier work. All stages oi finishing are now in progress. In walking round the building one sees recently-laid brickwork, rough-cast being applied, or finally coatings of lime white, the latter sparkling in the sun, and forming a contrast to the red brick base and quoins, while from the numerous vent down-pipes one , gathers that the drain is all laid.

Within, the plasterers and carpenters are busy preparing the way for the painters, who will be in full swing before the end of the month. 'The plasterers have more than hall-finished the interior, the extensive corridor, operating block, ward kitchens, etc., being finished in Keene's cement, and the wards in lime putty or plaster of Paris. The carpenters are engaged in laying floors, hanging doors, fitting up cupboards and shelves, and generally keeping close upon the heels of -the plasterers.

Tlie plumber has completed his mile or 80 of piping, and is hard at work fixing baths, earthenware sinks, and all various sanitary fittings connected with a hospital. The latter are all from Twyford's, Huntley, and are an excellent sample of the potter's handicraft. 'The conduits and wiring for the electrical installation are. keeping pace with the remainder of the work, the telephone system, X-ray fittings, etc., all being well in hand, and by the beginning of February it is hoped the painter will be well under weigh with his Contract, which will mean the beginning of the end.

The contractors, Mes-rs. Jrcvor and Son, are doing the work systematically: everything flowing smoothly, one trade always being close upon the next, so that all the finishing will be completed simultaneously.
