ALLEGED MURDEROUS ASSAULT* 1 A CHAPTER OF THEFTS. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Tiiuaru, Last Night. A youth named Birch, a Burnham! escapee, already committed for trial on' a charge of murderous assault on his employer, O'Coimell, at Clandeboye, was charged before the Magistrate's Court' to-day with five cases of forgery of O'Connell's name to cheques, and utter* ing them to Tcmuka shopkeepers, th€ total amount being £l3 10s, on the same day as the assault on O'Connellj also, the theft of various articles and money to the value of £5 10s, the pro', perty of O'Connellj also, the theft of &' bicycle, valued at £B, at 'Mitcham ori August 12th, and breaking and entering a dwelling at Mitcham on the same dayj and stealing a watch and chain and £5 15s cash. The accused had admitted ths offences to the police, and was committed for trial. Somo of the stolen article#' and £7 2s fid in money were found ifl accused's possession. The articles are to' no returned to the owners, and the money to be divided among the losers.
