A YOUTH DROWNED. By Telegraph.—Per Press AssociationInvercargill, Last Night. William Lewis Giffeu, IS years of age, was drowned on Saturday afternoon whilst bathing in a gravel pit on Surrey Park Estate. Another lad, named Ronald Eric. Barclay, attempted to 'rescue him, but failed, and was pulled down by the dec-eased.

The man was seriously injured internally, and conveyed to Tokomaru hospital. An operation was found (o be imperative, and district doctors for fifty miles around were mustered, and the operation successfully performed.
