DISCUSSED BY, SYDNEY BUTUHEIIS. GROWERS AND EXPORTERS COMBINE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, January 1. Tlie master butchers discussed tin; ■dcarncss of meat, and decided to ask lliij Conmiodities Commission to inqure, into tlie abnormally high and sudden rise in pries end short supplies of stock. Some speakers claimed that the posi'tion was largely due to the operations of exporters, and that tlie cold storages were full of'carcases. They hinted that there was a ring among growers and exporters. Others were opposed to th» Government poking its nose into people's affairs. Suggestions in favor of an export tax and co-operative meat marketing received little support. The retail r.rices of beef in tlie city 'are now from sixpence to a shilling, and 1 mutton from fourpence to cightpence. i It, is dearer in the suburbs.
