Constable 'iSoulton asted as spokesman on bcialf of the police force of the New Plymouth district, most of the members of wliicli were present. The gift consisted of a handsome silver-mounted and engraved cut-glass inkstand. Constable ISoulton, in presenting the inkstand, referred in feeling terms to the good fellowship vhbU had always prevailed between the recipient ajul the members ' of the uniform branch of the service, and sitiil that while ieeling glad at his proi motion it was with great sorrow that they viewed the departure of so popular un officer from the district. Chief Detective Boddam, in reply, thanked the members of the force for their gift, and voiced his opinion that the detective branch and the Uniformed force should always strive to get on well together. The greatest harmony ami goodwill had always existed between himself and tlis police force of the New Plymouth district,, and he was very proud, to receive a ■presentation. ' symbolising that unity and harmony lie trusted that the bond of friendship would not be severed by his removal from this station, but that ea«h of them "ould always look on him as a pi'rsoiuil friend.
