RIFLE SHOOTING.
TARANAKI RIFLE ASSOCIATION. The anuual shooting meeting under the auspices of the Turannki Rifle Association will be held at the Rewa Rewa range, Waiwakaiho, on February 4th and February sth. The programme lias been considerably enlarged since last year, and, in addition to the Grand Aggregate, there will also be aggregate prizes at the long and short ranges, as well as Tyro Aggregate and Tyro 500 Yards Range 'Aggregate. The prize-money lias also been increased, and now amounts to £IG7, as well a* the champion belt, the I Tisch Memorial Cup, a gold medal, and three silver medals. With the abandon incut of the Trenthaiu meeting, it is expected that additional interest will centre in the district shoots, and with the incentive of the present war having caused particular attention to be paid to the rifle, there should easily be a record entry. The Association had applied to the Government for assistance, which, it was expected, would have been forthcoming, especially as the Trentham meeting, which is largely assisted by the Defence Department, had been abandoned, but a reply has been received, stating that no funds are available.
