MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
- QUARTERLY RETURNS The number of plaints issued for tlie last quarter of IHI4 was 100, and the amounts claimed £5403 ( .)s (id. There were actually before the Court 113 cases in which was claimed £2052 fls. Of this £2037 Is 2d was recovered. Six orders were made out, fifteen distress warrants issued, It! judgment summonses, 11 judgment orders made; and two warrants of committal issued. The criminal court sat 30 times during the quarter, J.'sP. presiding over two sittings. The total number of persons summoned or arrested was 74, of whom six were females. The cases were classified as follows: Manslaughter, one case; theft, fraud, etc., four; offences against good order, such as drunkenness, etc., 27; miscellaneous offences, 42. The accused were dealt with as follows: Charges withdrawn, nine; dismissed, three; fined, 38; imprisoned, two. Orders were made out against eight people, and 12 persons were discharged with cautions. Fines paid were £32 3s and fees paid were £ll 10s, making up £43 13s. Only one prohibition order was issued during the quarter.
