AUSTRC-GERMAPJ CONSPiRACY COMMERCE IN CONTRABAND. GOVERNMENT HAKES ACTION. Received 31 10.35 p.m. London, December 31. Tlie Daily Chronicle's Milan correspondent reports that the Italian Government lias unearthed a vast Austro-Ger-nian conspiracy, with ramifications at Naples, Genoa, Florence, and Milan, to corner contraband and foodstuffs, footwear, blankets, and war material, and exporting them through an Adriatic port. The Customs authorities at Genoa seized an £SOOO consignment of military cloth, intended for Germany and Austria. In connection with Estrignano's and Piori's arrest, the police have discovered at the hitter's residence £12,000 worth of orders from German and Austrian firms for contraband supplies. Many German commercial travellers are sojourning in the large cities for the sole purpose of purchasing secretly and exporting forbidden merchandise. The Government lias warned them that it will be to their advantage to depart.
