CENSURE OF THE CENSOR. THE SYSTEM DEFENDED. Melbourne. December 30. Air Pearce, replying to the criticisms in the Argus on the censorship, said he did not desire to pose as a journalist. He endeavoured to show that the department was doing everything to prevent assistance being given to the enemy and deprecated the publication of erroneous news emanating from German sources, as likely to create a feeling of insecurity and alarm. The action of certain West Australian newspapers in criticising-thc censor's interference will be the subject of a prosecution shortly. ' Sydney, December 30. Mr Cook, commenttng on the Government's latest proposal to dispatch reinforcements at the rate of three thousand per month, points out their inadequacy and urges the hurrying forward of at least a hundred thousand.
On the other hand, the commandant states that there is no need for a special appeal for recruits, as there are sufficient men of splendid type to meet all the present requirement's.
