SAD DROWNING ACCIDENT.
IX WAINGONOORO RIVER. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Quite a gloom was cast over Hawera yesterday, when it became known that i Air Arthur Christian West, caretaker at the Egmont A. and P. showgrounds, had been drowned at the mouth of the Waingongoro river, which is about five miles from Hawera. The deceased, who fifid gone to the beach in company with his wife, went into the river for a bathe. Evidently he was seized with cramp, and disappeared in fourteen feet of water: His wife went for assistance. Constable Kvne and Messrs ■) < ameron and W. Clnrinj-ibold quickly aimed on the seene, ami these three gent emeu took turns at diving, and the body was eventually recovered by Mr Cameron.
