SCOW'S TRYING VOYAGE.

lIOW TUB ILYERE WAS BUFFETED ABOUT. Gisborne, December 22. Captain Jiaddy, of the scow Jlaoro (nok Irene), which was towed into Gisboruu early this morning in a disabled condition, stated that lie left Wellington on December Sth, and when oIT Kidnappers the following day lie encountered a heavy westerly gale, this being so severe as to carry away the mainsail. A favourable slant on the 10th enabled the sail to be repaired wider shelter of Mahia Peninsula. Putting to sea again, a succession of 'heavy gales was experienced, whilst the scow was being blown along by a westerly gale. On the 15th those' on board caught a glimpse of East Cape again. Another gale drove the boat ninety miles eastward of the mainland, and it. was not until the 10th that the vessel succeeded in beating back. Since Satin day the Ifaere had made three unsuccessful attempts to proceed north, and was unable to obtain an anchorage along tile coast. Siie entered Tolaga voslerday, but was blown out again and L.4 another mainsail, while she narrowly missed going ashore. Urgent s'glials secured a tug last night, and l-h.\ scow was towed into Gisborne, where ti'i■ ■ sails are now being refitted.
