THE TIMBER INDUSTRY.
SLUMP IN RAWMILLIXO. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Wellington, December 22. The plight of the sawmilling industry in New Zealand through the slump in building caused" by the war was placed before the Premier to-day by a large deputation of leading sawmillers. The deputation asked for some relief from the Stat.' in the shape of moratorium protection and the remission of rentals. Mr. Mussey expressed his sympathy with the sawmillers. He pointed out that the moratorium did not apply at present to sawmilling, indicating that where timber whs cut from private or Native, land what course would be taken would depend on tile House, and when the House would meet lie could not at present say. Tn cases where timber was being cut from Crown land, thafc was a matter of administration, and he was quite prepared to make a. recommendation to his colleagues on that point.
