(Note. —Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot):— I 'Mutton.—More demand, owing to the short supply of Dutch, but market is de- j dining on account of frozen supplies increasing. Canterbury mutton, 5 1 / ad; North Island, 5y 3 d. Lamb.—The market is quiet. Canterbury, G 9.10 d; other than Canterbury, 6%d. Beef. —Better demand for beef, owing to short supply of Irish and chilled. New Zealand hinds, 0%; fore. 5.5; chilled hinds, 7%d; fores, 5%d. ■ Butter.—The market is firm. Danish is very slow, and supplies arc decreasing. The price is 150s to 154s per cwt. The Mew Zealand market is firm, and good demand at 13fis to 138s. Australian market firm. Moderate supplies are coming forward at 134s to 1365. Argentine firm ad 132s to 1365. Cheese.—The market is not quite so firm. Canadian, firm, but demand only moderate; white and colored, per cwt., 78s to 70s; exceptionally, 80s. The New Zealand market declined further; white and colored. 70s to 775. The Kuahi.ie, Tainui, and Pakelia are in dock. The Ruahine and Tainui are discharging butter and cheese now, but the Pakeha cannot discharge for three days. The dairy produce market is rather unsettled, owing to the delay in delivery from tho docks. Hemp. The market is somewhat steadier. There is very little New Zealand on band. New Zealand good fair grade, per ton, £26; fair, £24. These prices are nominal. January to March, New Zealand good fair grade, per ton, £24 10s; fair, £22 10s. Fair current . Manila, £25. NEWTON KING'S REPORT. i On 'Tuesday, December 15th, I held my monthly sale of above produce to a good , attendance of buyers. The catalogue i comprised: 245 bales and 112 sacks of wool, 1018 sheepskins, 15 casks and 12 tins of tallow, 367 dudes, and 1071 calf skins. Wool, in sympathy with other markets, receded ifd to yd per lb., heavyconditioned and log-stained being most affected. Bright and well-grown wools almost held their own with November sales' prices. However, I was able to place the hulk of the catalogue at full market rates, although in some cases not up to vendors' expectations. Some of the best | sales were.—ll bales 9%d, 4 at O'/.d, 21 i at 9.} d. 47 at »d, 25 at 8%.
