ENTERTAINMENTS.

"STXTV YEARS A QUEEN." To-night's big attraction at the Empire Theatre will be "Sixty i'ears a Qncen," 'illustrated in 7000 ft of film, A most pronounced success at Auckland is reported. Concerning the picture the Auckland Star said: "What is probably one of the finest hitsorical pictures yet presented through the medium of cinematography was shown to delighted , audiences. . . The title is 'Sixty Years a Queen,' and it deals with the life and reign of 'Victoria the Good.' Apart altogether from the excellence of the portraiture, and the interest which would always be manifested in a faithful representation of the life of a favorite sovereign, the showing of this picture comes at a most opportune time. Nearly alt the outstanding deeds which helped to win the Empire are woven into' the story, and last night it was good indeed to feel the wave of patriotic, feeling which passed through the building during the screening of stirring scenes of the Crimean War, of the Indian Mutiny, of the South African War, etc., etc. Events of Imperial significance such as the pur. chase by England of the Hudson Bay Territory, the finding of the first nugget of gold in Australia (also its subsequent presentation to the Queen), the purchase by Disraeli of a controlling share in the Suez Canal, lend a historical signfieance to the picture which renders it superbly interesting to old and young. . . . Many of the leading personages of the reign were shown with remarkable exactitude of portraiture." A lecture by Mr. Barrio Marschel will supply added interest., Box plans are at Hoffmann's.
