BELGIAN RELIEF FUND.
COXCERT AT HILLSBOROUGH. A very appreciative audience assembled at the hall on Thursday night, 17th, at the breaking-lip ceremony of the Hillsborough school. Mr. J. I\, Ilill presided and in his opening remarks referred to the fact that a referendum was taken, whether the pupils would take their usual rewards of merit, or donate the funds of their concert to the Patriotic Relief Fund, with the result that there was an unanimous vote in favor of the Relief Fund, an action that lie considercdl was to be very highly commended. Souvenir cards were presented to the children iu lieu of annual prizes. Six proficiency certificates were awarded, and one competency certificate at the recent examination by the inspector at New Plymouth, one lad, Leonard Sampson, has been only three months in the. sixth Standard, facts that were very creditable indeed, both to teacluu's and scholars The following programme was given: Overture, pianoforte duet, Misses Bishop and Skelton: speaking tableau, "Three Enigmas," school girls; recita. tiiui, "The Piggies," junior bovs; song, ''l'd like to be a soldier boy," senior boys; fan drill, junior girls; song, "lied, White, and Blue," senior pupils; action song, "Cleanliness," junior pupils; dialogue, "True Charity," G. Pitt, E. Parker. IX Marsh, M. Sampson, G. Smith, G. Bishop; song, "The Fisher Baby," senior pupils; recitation, "Tack and Ned." Vila Bishop; dialogue, "The Rehearsal," seven senior boys and girls; pianoforte duet, Misses G and V. Skelton; wand drill, eight, senior boys and girls: action songs, "List; to our Singing," ami "Skipping Song," senior girls; dialogue, "Military Discipline," senior boys; recitation, "His Lesson." Charlie Hill; ban .:- kerchief song, senior girls; action song, "Happy Children," junior pupils; plantation song, "Uncle Neil," senior boys: dialogue, 'Aunt Mary's Will," Misses I. Hill, M. Martin, D. Sampson, and Masters 11. Pitt and A. Uamblyn. "God Save the King." At the close of the concert- the chairman thanked Miss Hilda Bishop for the assistance she is always willing to give, iu any movement conducive to the Melfare of the district.
