There is at least one man in Auckland to.day who was in Paris on the very day that war was declared between France and Germany (reports the Star.) Mr. George Aldridge, evangelist of the Church of Christ, in Auckland, who, with Mrs. Aldridge, has been absent on an extended tour of Europe and America, returned,'home by the Makura from Vancouver on Sunday. Mr, and Mrs. Aldridge left Auckland at tho end of March last 011 their visit to tho Old Country. In addition to other interests of his trip, Mr Aldridge was the New Zealand representative to the World's Esperanto Congress, whilch was to have, been opened in Paris early in August. He and Mrs. Aldridge arrived in Paris on Saturday, August Ist, one and a half hours after war had been declared. With other visitors, they got away from Paris tho following day, on the strong advice of the French Government.
