RESULT OF VOX S.PEE'S DEFEAT. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. Auckland, Lust Night. The Minister for Defence made two in. teresting statements this evening. It was suggested that since the oceans had nowpractically been cleared of German raiders, it might be possible to remove some of the restrictions on small vessels entering and leaving the principal ports. The 'Minister agreed, and added that the authorities had under consideration the matter of considerably reducing the garrisons at present being maintained in the forts. Hon. Allen was asked whether the Samoan garrison might not be also similarly reduced. He replied that this was different, it was absolutely necessary that a sufficient force should remain in Samoa, in order that proper control could be kept over the colored races resident in the islands.
