STRATFORD NEWS.

• (Krom Our Resident Reporter.) i The slip in tlie tunnel at ■Whangai i:ioiuona id more serious than was at first anticipated, and all traffic id stopped beyond l'ohokura. : ' Miss N. Hart, of tlie teaching staff ol tli (! .Stratford High School, tendered her resignation at the seliool committee meeting on Tuesday night. Miss Hart is well liked by the school children and parents, and I am glad to hear that the committco intends to .suitably acknowledge her good services. Not onlv in 'school work, in which the inspector's reports have been uniformly complimentary, but also in encouraging other activities in connection with the school, Miss Hart is undoubtedly a loss. It ig with deep regret that I have to record the death of Mr E. R. Wilson, eldest sou of air Wilson, of Kohurotalii. Mr Wilson, or "Ted," as he was , familiarly known, was for some years in lllc office of LMr W. G. Malone' and was looked upon as very brilliant.. He succeeded in passing all'his law exams, except the final, and this failure was due to his weakening eyesight, waeii compelled him to givo un'the law some years ago. He went in for fanning, and was looked upon by the residents of YVhanga and Kolttwata'hi, as a good, sterling settler. He appeared in'perfect health till Sunday, when, as he was not feeling well, for Hitchcock, of \\ lianga, wivs consulted. On Monday he ordered Mr Wilson's removal to' the ..Stratford Hospital, where he was operated on the same day. He pulled through the operation, ; and was doing fine, but on Tuesday complications set in and death took place at 11 p.m., at the age of 33. Mr Wilson plavo.' football lor years for the Stratford Club, and was looked upon as a fine forward. Mr Andy Smith, who happened to be at Wlianga., gladly placed bis motor-car at the patient's disposal to come to the hospital, and the journey to Stratford was made in 2 1 /, hours. _ Saturday should be a red letter dav in Stratford, being factorv pay dav. The amounts to be paid out bv tTio different factories aro:—Stratford, £9160; Mgaere ,' '£4245: Lowgurth, £3421; Cardiff £2833 •' , and Midhirst, probably £lo,<n9 *
