Sir Henry J. Miller, who is now in the 35th year, celelbrated his feolden wedding yesterday at Oaina.ru, ho and Lady Milter being the recipients of many congratulatory messages from all parts of the Dominion.—Press Association.
Mr. Walter Bewley is expected to arrive in Sydney shortly by the Maloja, hud will possibly return to New Plymouth a day or two befor« Christmas. At the, meeting of the ■ High' School Board on Monday, Mr. Bewley was granted a further month's leave of absence.
Lady Douglas, relict of the,late Sir Kobert Douglas, of Wllmngareii, died a few days ago, at an advanced age. Sir Robert Douglas, who held a eqmmissien in the 57ih Regiment, saw service in the Maori wars. In 1860 he retired into ei«l life and took un land at W'lia-revoa, near Whangarei, Where he died in tho year following. His widow carried on tho farm until quite recently. A Victoria Cross hero, Mr. John Kenrick, died at Murchison, Nelson, last week at the advanced age of 79. In his younger days Mr. Kenrick served in the Navy,.vand after his discharge emigrated to New Zealand. His Victoria Cross was awarded to him after the Maori war for conspicuous bravery in carrying a wounded officer to safety under a heavy lire. For many ffars prior to his death Mr. Kenrick had led a solitary life in a whare near the Ma-ruia Gorge, earrling a livelihood by gold-digging. He was seized •with a stroke, and was carried some nine miles by his neighbors to the nearest cart road, but died later at the house of a farmer friend, one of whose vehicles afterwards served as a hearse at his humble funeral.
