REBEL GENERAL DROWNED. HIS FOLLOWING DEFEATED. Pretoria, December 9. Official.—Dutriot was engaged with Beyers' commando on the Sonaspruit, 15 miles south of Bothavillc. Beyers split his commando, and he himself with thirty met), fled to the Vaal, near its junction with the Sonaspruit. There was a sharp engagement on the bank of the Vaal, which was flooded. Beyers and a few followers tried to swim their horses across. When his horse was shot, Beyers fell into the river, and grasped tlie tail of his horse, which swam towards the Loya lists. He was next seen drifting down stream, calling for help. Tie was not seen again. A search is being made for the body. It is believed tliat Beyers was wounded earlier in the fight. Practically all his followers are imprisoned. The other drives resulted ill the capture of nearly two hundred.
