The very sudden and unexpected death of Mr F. H. Boase, of Hawera, occurred yesterday. Deceased went down to business as usual, and was in- his shop, wihen a heart seizure very suddenly carried him off.—Star. Mr G. If. Morgan, lata of Xew Plymouth, now manager of the Union Steam Sh : .p Company'* Suva branch, was a, passenger to Auckland from the islands by the Navua on Sunday evening. Mr Morgan, who is making a liollday visit to tihe Dominion, is now in Wellington.

'Mr K. H. Nolan, of Hawera, in writing from London to a. friend, under date October 20, said Dr Valintine (InspectorGenwal of Hospitals), the. High Commissioner, and himself; had just completed a motor tour through the South of England, in the course of which they inspected a number of hospitals. Mr Nolan mentions that while in Chichester he spent an cvening'with the Bev. Mr Parvinirton, brother of Mr C. E. Partington, of Hawera, and also an evening with Major-General Davies. "This has .been a beautiful autumn-, but owing to the war. a gad one,-' says Mr Nolan.—Star.
