PURSUIT AND CAPTURE O? DB WET. ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE FOILED. Received 4, 8.50 p.m. Capetown, December 4. After crossing the railway with a hundred followers, who were well mounted and had an abundance of spare horses, De Wet divided his commando into halves, whereof one-half was captured without resistance by the motor contingent. The latter then continued to chase De Wet. Then eight mounteds, under Colonel Jordan, followed a zig-zag trail to Waterburg and captured most of De Wet's horses, De Wet, when summoned to surrender, tried to escape, but was encircled, and surrendered when Colonel Jordan threatened to fire. HOW DE WET WAS TAKEN, PURSUED BY MOTOR-CARS. Capetown. December 3. Official.—After De Wet 'crossed the Vaal on November .23, Dutoit continued the chase in motor cars. De Wet eluded the pursuit and joined his commando in the Schneizereinske district and moved westwards, heavy rains blocking the motors. De Wet crossed the railway near Devondale, north of |' Vryburg, where Brits took up the chase 1 wifii the assistance of a fast motor car contingent. ' Brits captured. a portion | of De Wet's commando on November 27. De Wet left the day before, still going westwards. After a relentless pursuit Brits overtook De Wet on a farm at Waterburg on Tuesday. He surrounded the farm and captured the whole fifty-two without a shot. Brits captured sixty other rebels, including Commandant Cust, editor of Hetvolk.
