CONTRIBUTIONS TO PATRIOTIC " FUNDS BY CIVIL SERVICE. Wellington, Last Night. In a circular to. the heads of departments of the Civil Service, the Minister for Internal Affairs expresses the thanks >f the Government to the m«mbers of the Public Service for the manner in which they have' voluntarily combined to provide so large an addition to the Patriotic War Fund. The contributions from all lepartments of the Public. Service, other than the Post Office, Police, and Hallways, amount to £6593; from the. Post Mice to £-2250; from the Police to £941 0s 8d; and from the Railways (special fund) to £2300. Tlie Minister says this is a total of no less than £1*2,081 Is Id, subscribed within three Months, by a body of men whose salaries ire already subject to considerable nonthly deductions for superannuation funds, and even the total does not include amounts contributed by the service to the British and Belgian Relief Fund and to the Distressed New Zeaianders' Fund. The service in this, as in many other respects- since the outbreak of the war, has set an example to the whole Dominion of a generous sacrifice at the call of the Empire.
