ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION. By Telegraph I .—Per Presa Association. Auckland, Last. Night. A cQi&rge against Stewart Dixon, late president of the Hunlly Miners' Union, of misappropriation ;of the Union's funds was 'heard in the 'Magistrate's Court, Huntly, to-day.. Accused reserved his defence and was committed for trial. ALLEGED PICKING POCKETS. Auckland, Last Night.. Walter Gray, who has twice escaped from custody, and was recently arrested in Australia, was brought bofore the court] to-day, charged with pocket picking. On March 28 last a man, named Pollard, at the refreshment booth in the .cricket ground, missed his purse, and complained to Detective Hammond, Hammond, watching the booth five min'iites later, saw Gray, who was moving about in the crowd, slip his hand into a man's hip pocket He arrested Gray, took him into a grocer's shop, and tried tio search him. Gray resisted violently, and was handcuffed. Afterwards Pollard's purse -was found -under the shop counter. In Gray's podket was a book containing a li3t of the coining shows, lace meetings, sports gatherings etc., in the Dominion. Gray pleaded not guilty, and was committed for triaj.
