There is a strange unanimity on the part of Taranaki Reform members to repudiate their action in connection with the Legislative Council Bill. They find this new plan no pleasufe. They forgot that the Prime Minister abandoned what little political honesty remained to him at the end of two years' office to ensure the passage of a bill that had so long hung fire. We were always convinced that there was not much real enthusiasm for Council reform among Ministerialists. Mr Massey was sbainned into completing the work he had begun, or he would probably have been satisfied with the attempt to keep a pledge for which the attempt to keej a pledge for which he had no liking. At any rate, the members for Stratford, Taranaki, Patea, and Egmont, who swelled the majority that passed the Bill, have discovered that they made a mistake, and tender their apologies to their constituents at the first opportunity.—Southland News.
