THE VICTORIAN ELECTIONS. LIBERAL MAJORITY MAINTAINED. Melbourne, November 28. On the latest figures Labour won Port Fairy from the Liberals and Mr Argyle, the old Liberal member for Dalhousie, was defeated by Mr Cameron, an Independent Liberal. This makes the parties: Liberal 42, Labour 23. In the House the question of Sir Geo. Reid's reappointment for one year was discussed. The statements made by Messrs C'ook and Glynn show that they intended to extend Sir G. Reid's term for three or five years, but the elections intervened.
Mr Cook said if the Liberal GovornInent had known that Sir G. Reid was going to be treated in this manner ho would have taken care to reappoint him before the dissolution, Brisbane, November 2S. The Assembly carried the Treasurer's motion dissenting from the Speaker's ruling against the insertion of an amendment in the Co-operative Su"ar Company's Bill. The Speaker thereupon left the House.
