AGAINST THE MACHINERY ACT. By Telegrap'h.-Per Press Association. 'Palmerston North, Nov. 27. A deputation of managers of dairy factories m the Manawatu/ Hawke's Bay, Northern Wairarapa, and Raneittkei waited on the Hon. Mr. Fraser in connection with the llause in the Inspection of Machinery Act, rejuiring all drivers of engines to be in effective charge. Mr. C. R. Beattie, the spokesman, pointed out that the enforcement of this clause would mean the appointment of certificated engine-drivers, and this would mean an extra cost of £3 5s per week to factories. The Minister said that when the clause was framed he never thought that dairy companies would be affected. Jt was necessary in sawmills and flaxmUls. When he got back to Wellington he would set the department working to see if it could not distinguish between machinery dangerous to human life r.nd harmless machmery; Ho would do his best to meet the complaint.
