METHODIST SYNOD.

A BUSY DAY* , V Tho Synod resumed its annual meeting at tho Whiteley Hall yesterday morning. After a helpful discussion on "The* Work of God," tho Synod opened, th#» Rev. T. G. Griffiths and E. Dixon. Mr. W. A. Collis (lay treasurer of the Grey Institute Trust) was also present. After devotional exercises the chairman addressed the Synod, touching upon the portentous events of the present

time. Emphasis was laid upon the important issues that were to be faced at the ensuing poll", and the hope was expressed that the members of the Synod' would use their influence to their utmost to bring these, important issues to a j successful consummation. I Dispensations were granted to theRevs. R. T. 'P. Tladdon and C. B. Jordan, B.A. i The Rev. A. B. Chappoll, M.A., was>. elected secretary of the Synod, and the Rev. W. B. Scott assistant secretary, with the Rev. C. H. Olds, 8.A., as journal

secretary. The Rev. A. Reader was appointed re* porter to the Press. It was resolved to . send the best wishes of the Synod to the chairman, who is absent with the Expeditionary Force, also to Mrs. Blamires. The Rev. J. ,T. Mather applied to become permanently supernumerary at the ensuing conference, which was unanimously granted. The Rev. L. Hudson applied to Teturn

to the active work, and the request was ■ sustained. J It was recommended that Uruti, (Pukcaruhe, Okolce, and Mimi become part of the Waitara circuit, with a home missionary to reside at Urenui, with a grant of £SO. The Synod considered this a most ur« gent case, and regret was expressed that' the Home Mission executive had not made appointments during the year tS North Taranaki or Mokau. It considered that the Cliff College men should havs been sent, and strongly recommended that men be speedily appointed to thii area, with suitable grants.
