MR HUNTER AT DANNEVIRKE. By Telegraph.—Per Presi Ass»»iation. Dannevirke, November 24. Mr G. Hunter, Government candidate for Waipawa, addressed a crowded meeting in Dannevirko Town Hall last night and was given a splendid hearing. He detailed the Government's record and said lie favoured a referendum 011 the Bible-in-schools question, though Ue himself was not in favour of Bible reading in State schools. He also favoured a referendum on matters affecting the general public on which they desired a deciding voice, and a 55 per cent, majority on licensing. His defence of Government action concerning the strike was approved. Votes of thanks and renewed confidence in the Masscy Government were carried. MR MURDOCH'S RETIREMENT. Hokitika, Yesterday. Mr J. A. Murdoch, the selected Reform candidate, who retired 011 Saturday, has resigned the Mayoralty of Kumara.
