SUNDAY'S EARTHQUAKE.
SEVERE ON THE EAST COAST. Sunday night's earthquake appears to have been felt, in every town in the North Island with more or less severity, but by the time Christchurch and Dunedin were reached it was decidedly a minor tremor. At Wellington, Napier, Gisborne, Levin, .Daimevirke, Pahiatua, Hastings, Feikling, Taihape, Woodvjlle, and Wanganui the congregations in the churches were alarmed, some people fainting, and many ruslied into the streets. Wellington's shock waa not severe, but on the east of the island chimneys were levelled, and other minor damage is reported, (iisborne suffered most. A telegram from Taihape reports that a landslide occurred in the Hautapu stream, and two anglers narrowly escaped death.
