The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co, Ltd., (Stratford branch) reports as follows: On Tuesday, 17th inst., we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford yards, when there was a fair entry of 200 head of cattle and 275 sheep. Bidding was brislc, more especially for store cows with condition thereon, anil farmers should take, this opportunity of clearing up their cull cows, as prices are exceptionally good. We had a large entry of dairy stock, 53 head, most of which were sold at remarkably good value for this time of the vear.
Store cows, small and. low conditioned, £3 Is to £4 10s; better condition, £4 15s to £5 15s; fat and forward cows, £0 os to £8 17s (id; 2yr steers, small, up to £4 4s Gd and to £5 ss; yearling steers, small, 01s; yearling heifers, 27s fid to 02s for a nice line on account of a Ngaere client; bulls £0 to £4 17s (Id. Wethers, shorn, passed at 10s; hoggets, 'shorn, His; dairy stock, small and backward heifers, from £4 15s for two-year-olds to £3 10s; close up and better grown, £6 10s to £5; 3-yr. old heifers, showing quality, £7 10s to £G 15s: dairy cows, £7 2s fid to £B. On Wednesday, 18th inst., we held our usual monthly sale in our Te Wers rants when there was a fair entry of 300 head of cattle, 245 head of which were sold under keen competition at satisfactory prices. There was also a few head of sheep yarded. The attendance of the public was large:—Two year old empty heifers, s m all and mixed sorts, £3 2s (id to £3 Gs; one nice line passed in at £3 10s; 2yr. old steers, small and rough, £4 0s Gd; better grown, £5 7s Gd; 3 year old steers, up to £5 17s Gd; KS-month steers up to £3 12s fid; yearling steers, small but fair quality, £3 to £3 3s; yearling heifers, 43s fill to 44s Gd: store cows, small and light, £3 Gs (id to £4 12s; forward cows, up to £fi; bulls, yearlings, £3 2s Gd, 2-yr. olds, £0 to £O. and for a very nice 2yr. old Holstein, £ll 2s fid was secured; f.m. rams in wool, 18s; woolly hoggets, small, 13s Gd; f.m. ewes and lambs, 18s 4d. There was a large entry in the dairy pins of heifers and cows, quality of which was fair, the better quality stuff sidling at advanced prices as compared with previous sales. Dairy cows, small and backward, £0 to £fi los; small and backward heifers, £4; medium heifers, 2 year olds, up to £G ss. Since wo last reported, wc hare put through a considerable number of paddock sales. Yearling heifers, 38s to 42 a Gd; two year old steers, £4 4a fid to' £4 18s; store cows, £4 12s Gd to £5 ss.
