A BRITISHER'S WHINE.

To the Editor, Sir, —I lave read with much interest a "Britisher's whine" about the employment of Government officers of German descent. If he, refers more particularly to a well-known and highly popular police oll'icer iu his district, his venomous tirade will fall short of its object, for this man stands too high in the public esteem to be ail'ected by this vicious attack. The fact of a man being of German descent does not always imply that he is a supporter of this swinish system of Prussian militarism which has brought misery to the world. "A Britisher" seems to be of the same type of pig-headed busybody as have hounded out Prince Henry of Battenberg from the naval service. There are thousands of Germans and descendants of Germans in the colonies who are quite loyal to the British constitution, and who much prefer the high ideals of British justice to the brutal domination of the Prussian Plunder Party. If ''A Britisher" were to limit loyalty to Englishmen, how would it fare with irishmen like myself, who are not British either technically or actually? And if your mischievous correspondent were to look backwards a little into the history of mankind, hj" wou'il discover that very many English people are of German descent—our present line of MonarcJis for instance. -So it would be well for "A Britisher" to cease his petty attempt to oust from his position a man whose only fault seems to be his easy-going nature and his consequent inactivity in attending to mischief-mongers and disturbers of the peace like "A Britisher."—l am, etc., NORMANBY.
