DISTRICT NEWS

AUUOA. From Our Own (.'orrcspimdent. Tl'e front wheel of one of tile Kuuisn'koimi el't'tsv waggons, fully loaded, eanie oil while going down the Taikatu road. Fortunately, nothing of a serious nature happened. Mrs. J. O'Dea, while driving along the 'Skeet Koad. liad the misfortune to hreak tile axle of t!ie gig, and a very nasty ■iteident was narrowly averted.

A feeling of relief was experienced when news came through that the Km(U'li was wrecked. , The. committee of the Tennis and Bowling Club is leaving no stune unturned to ensure, an absolute success at tin: opening of their grounds next Wednesday. The farmers of the district are becoming alive to the fact that they must bo represented on the County Council, and, therefore, rolled up in full force to record their votes on Wednesday, when their efforts were fully rewarded by three candidates they plumped for lopping the poll, namely, Messrs. J. I''. Stevenson, T. A. Bridge, and W. A. Morton. ' The nidk supply is very irregular thi-i season, and is not likely to come np to previous years' total.

The .CftOO raised in Manaia last Saturday for the relief funds is very creditable, and I am pleased to say that the Auroa folks were amongst those who helped so liberally. Red-water seems to be prevalent amongst the cows this season, one settler losing five a while ago, and another one has two more down with it. The Main South road between Manaia and Kaupokonui is very rough just now, as they are ploughing it up and remetalling it. I am no authority on roadmaking, but it seems to me that they plough tip too much at a time, and if rain comes we have chains of a quagmire.
