A DOUBLE TRAGEDY. Melbourne, November 13. A tragedy ;,as oeeured at St. Kilda. Vtiliam Whitj shot and dangerously wounded Agnes Stephens and then committed suicide. The tragedy was the outcome of the breaking of' their engagement.
ELECTIONS IN WESTRAIIA. Perth, November 13. The final election returns showed that Ministerialists secured 20 seats and Oppositionists 24 seats.
NEW SOUTH WALES FLNANCii Sydney, November 13. In the Assembly, Mr Holman explained that the new Commonwcauii loan of £7,400,000 would bo made available in New South Wales in instalments during the next twelve months from December I. During that period the Government would spend £0,000,000 on railways and other reproductive works. Financial difficulties were likely to thicken during the war, which he predicted would be long and difficult.
