EQUITABLE BUILDING SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the above Socity was hid at tlie Town Hall last night, Mr P. Hopkins, chairman of directors, presiding. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, tlie chairman said that there was a feeling among some of the members of the first group that the life of that group was being prolonged unduly, and it was thought hteps should be taken to wind it up. The directors bad the matter in hand, ai'd he that a satisfactory scheme would soon be formulated. The motion was carried without discussion. Messrs. Berry, Ewing and Hopkins were re-elected directors unopposed. i Mr T. 0. Mills was nominated for reelection as auditor by Mr P. P. Corkill, who said he nad ascertained that the work of the audit had been carried out most satisfactorily. Some discussion aroso as to whether the motion should not come from an independent niembeir, and eve»tuallv Mr Corkill withdrew his motion after" explaining why he had taken the initiative. Mr Nixon then moved the re-election of Mr Mills., and the motion was carried. On the motion of 001. Ellis the directors were voted an honorarium of m from each, group. The chairman duly acknowledged the vote. On the motion of Mr Corkill, seconded tiv -Mr E. DockTiil, a vote of sympathy with the late secretary, Mr H. Stacker in Ms illness, was passed, the chairman joining in the eulogy of Mr Stocker' services) to the Society. This concluded the business of the meeting.
