GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL.
STATE ASSISTANCE FORTHCOMING. GRANT OP £4OOO AVAILABLE. At Fitzroy last night, Mr H. Olcev, 31. said that upon his representations, backing up the request of tile .New Plymouth High School Board, a grant of £+001) had been placed on the Supplementary for the erection of a separate Girls' High School at New Plymouth. He had just received from the Secretary for Education a letter 'enclosing' a copy of a letter forwarded by Mr Hogben to the Secretary of the New Plymouth High .School' Board, which letter explains itself: — "In reference to the matter of the. provision of funds for the Girls' High School at New Plymouth, the Minister is now prepared to consider a proposal of the Board in definite terms, provided that no part of anv grant that shall be made is payable before the 31st .March, lp">. The proposal of the Board should be accompanied by a plan of the building proposed, together with an estimate of its cost. The plan need not be a finished one. but ma.y be a rough sketch plant in outline only, provided it, indicates the sizrs and positions 'of the classrooms and other parts of the school and school premises. Mr Qkey added that lie had assisted 'in getting a loan from the Public Trustee? for the High School, and £3OOO tf tnis had already been advanced to the Board.
