DISTRICT NEWS.

(From' Our Own Correspondents). MANAIA. A double wedding, in which considerable local interest was taken, was oolebrated in Manaia to-day (Wednesday) when Mr. Williun Kussell, of Inaha, was .married to Miss Josephine Ward, of Opunake, and Mr. J. M'U'od, of Inaha., to Miss Adinah Russell. Mr. J. Russell, of the Wainiate Hotel, is a brother to Mr. William and Miss A. Russell. The bridesmaid for Miss Ward was Miss Winnie Ward, while Miss Fanny Russell acted for her sister. Miss Edna Russell, of Manaia, fdled the part i flower girl. Mr. and .Mrs. Russeil ,-n tained a large number of guests at the breakfast, which was held in the Wainiate Hotel. The proceedings were enlivened by music supplied by Messrs Cos'grovc, Hilton, O'Donnell and K. Cassidv. ' The honeymoon of Mr. and Mrs. McLeod is to be spent in Wanganui, while Mr. and Mrs. Russell proceed to Auckland.

In regard to the large sum provided by the sale of stock and goods here, it is pleasing to note that the fund is not yet closed. 'Auroa has still donations in stock to dispose of for the Belgian fund 'only, and there are other contributions made in and round Manaia, so it is probable that the full sum will aggregate £7OO. There are many who favor snding this sum to Belgium, where it is most needed, but of course its distribution is in the hands of the promoters. NORMANBY.

Your 'great enterprise in supplying the Daily News to the people of Taranaki from New Plymouth to Hawcra, Waimate Plains, and along to Opunake is greatly appreciated at such times aB the present. We never knew how valuable a morning paper was until we began to get early. Prohibition is also dead, and is not even considered. Our present frame of mind precludes the consideration of such a controversial question. Our Town Board is doing nothing. Much was expected of it, but so fir

has done nothing. One has only to drive from Hawera to Xormanby to find the difference in the upkeep of the ron . The county road is a treat, but immediately the Xormanby Town Board's district is reached 0110 wonders what is the matter. An answer was giv«

senger in the coach the other day. When the roughness anil bad road was being discussed he said. "Oh, this is the rocky road to Normanby!" Surely it's time a move was made by the Board to : have the roads put in decent condition. The grass is keeping, fairly good, but ,a little rain is bady required. Mi-.
