THE PATEA SEAT. By Telegraph.—Per Press Association. H»wera, November 10. Mr W. Morrison, the Libera,! candidate for the Patea seat, addressed the electors at Hawera last night, when there was a large attendance. The candidate was well received and had an attentive hearing. He believed in the right to acquire the freehold with limitation as to the area. On the licensing question he declared himself in favor of a 55 per cent, majority on local option and a bare majority on the national issue. He was against the referendum of the Bible in Schools, but favored the Nelson system. A motion was carried that Mr Morrison was a fit and proper person to represent the district.

ADDRESS BY MR HERRIES. Auckland, November 10. The Hon. W. 11. llcrries addressed his constituent-; at Manawtu last night. He said that "the party's platform included local and Imperial defence; the freehold policy; encouragement of the subdivision of large estates by inflicting an automatic graduated land tax; the establishment of agricultural and land banks; a bettor ay-di-m of hearing objections in rcpard' to land disputes;' the continuation of the immigration policy; the establishment of a Board of Trade and Commerce; the introduction of a Bill to protect the iron and oil industries; an empowering Bill to cxepnd money on irrigation of dry areas; assistance to gum land owners; pensions for the physically infirm-, State advances t& Boroughs; overhaul of the Customs duties; and insurance against sickness and unemployment, A hearty vote of confi. deuce and thanks was carried unanimously.
