The judgment of the. arbitrators appointed under the Coal Mints Act to decide whether nionob'T powder is a safe explosiee to use in the Extended mine, ll'uiitly, was announced to-day by Air. .fustice Cooper, who presided. ' On' October 1 the Inspector of Mini's gave the Taupiri Company notice to discontinue the use of monoliel powder in-the Extended mine, as being dangerous. The company protested, and the question was referred to arbitration. The arbitrators determined that none but permitted explosives shall be used ill tlio Extended mine, monobel being excluded from flic list, but if the company is unable withi.n a reasonable time to procure permitted explosives, and desires to use monobel, they shall first obtain the permission of the' Minister of Mines, who must be satistied that permitted explosives are not obtainable within a reasonable time, also that all necessary precautions for the safe use of monobel will be taken, and the Minister may, in his discretion, grant such permission, which in no case shall extend beyond the period of the continuance of the present war, or a reasonable time thereafter.
