FIGHTING IN EAST POLAND. HEAVY GERMAN LOSSES. REPORTED DISSENSIONS. Received 7, 12.50 a.m. Petrograd, November (J. Official: Heavy German losses are reported on the East Prussian front, only eighty men being left in some of the companies. Many of the Austrians who deserted report that there are Austrb-German dissensions, and enormous German losses.
©RIVING AUSTRIAN PRISONERS. A SORRY SIGHT. Received 8, 5.15 p.m. London, November 5. A correspondent, describing a handful of Cossacks driving 300 Austrian prisoners before thepf, says the. Cossacks rode hither and thither like cowpunchers herding cattle. Crowds ran alongside, handing food to the haggard prisoners. Women threw bread from the windows, wherofor the Hustrians struggled like hens scrambling for crumbs.
FRENCH CONGRATULATIONS. Paris, November 5. General .Tofjre has telegraphed to the Arciidukc Nicolas, congratulating him on the triumphant march of the Russian army during the last fortnight, and the fresh advance close to the German frontier. The. message adds: "We on outside, by energetic and insistent action, are seeking to destroy the enemy. Our aitniation is good.'"
GERMAN RETREAT CONTINUES. Petrograd, November 5. Official: 'A complete change is notice' able on the East Prussian frontier. The enemy has begun to retreat at certain points, markedly on the left wing. Many have been taken prisoners. The Germans continue their hasty retreat on the Vistula frontier. The rearguard has been driven out of Kolo and Przedborz. Our troops occupied Kielec on the 2nd, capturing COO Aus. trians, who hurriedly retreated along the whole line. We occupied Sandomicrz, and captured 200 officers, 10,000 men, several dozen guns, and machineguns.'
